# Ask AI: Questions About the Market, Answered in Place

> Ask about prices, moves and news without leaving the page you are on — Ask AI reads the page as context, lets you attach any widget or element, and cites where each answer comes from.

Ask AI is an assistant built into i88. Ask it about prices, moves and news in plain language, and it answers with the page you are on as context — the ticker you are looking at, the dashboard you have open, the screen you have built. It works on desktop; on phones and tablets it is marked **Soon**.

## Opening Ask AI

There are three ways in, and each one starts from where you already are.

* **From the toolbar.** The **Ask AI** icon sits in the [toolbar](/get-started/platform-overview#toolbar), right after **Search**. It opens a panel beside your content, in the same dock as search.
* **From a widget.** Hover a widget on your dashboard or a section on a ticker page and an **Ask AI** icon appears in its header. Click it and the panel opens with that widget already attached to your question, including how its filters are currently set.
* **From an explained term.** Financial terms across the platform carry a dotted underline. Hover one for a short definition; the **Ask AI** button in that popover opens the panel with the term attached, so you can ask a follow-up about it in context.

<Note>You can open the panel and type without an account, but sending a question needs you to be [signed in](/account/sign-in). If you dismiss the sign-in window, your message stays in the box, and a **Sign in** link next to the notice sends it once you have signed in.</Note>

## The panel

The panel behaves like the [search panel](/get-started/platform-overview#the-search-panel): pin it to dock it beside the page, or leave it floating and close it when you are done. Closing it does not end the conversation — open it again and you are where you left off.

* **Start from a suggestion.** An empty chat offers a few prompts suited to the page you are on. Click one to send it straight away.
* **Ask in your own words.** Type into the box at the bottom. **Enter** sends, **Shift+Enter** starts a new line.
* **Watch the answer arrive.** While Ask AI works, the panel shows what it is doing — thinking, each lookup of market data as it runs, then writing — and the answer fills in as it is written. **Stop generating** cuts it short.
* **Check the sources.** Under an answer, **Sources** lists what it drew on. A cited instrument opens its [ticker page](/market-tools/ticker-pages); other sources open at their own address.

## Adding context to a question

By default every question carries the page you are on: which dashboard or ticker, which screen, and what time zone you work in. You can add more.

* **Mention a ticker.** Type `/` in the box to pick a ticker from **Suggested tickers**, or use **+ → Add ticker** to search for one. It drops into your question as a chip.
* **Attach an element of the page.** The pointer button next to the box puts the page into selection mode. Hover to highlight an element — a chart, a widget, a section, a table, a filter — and click to attach it. The arrow keys move up and down through nested elements, **Tab** steps to the next one, and **Esc** cancels.
* **Up to five elements per question.** Each attached element shows as a chip with a one-line summary of its state at the moment you picked it, such as *AAPL · 1D range · Area*. Click a chip to scroll back to the element, or remove it with its close button.
* **Turn page context off.** **+ → Use page context** is a switch. Turn it off to ask a general question that should ignore what is on screen.

<Note>**Upload docs or images** in the **+** menu is not available yet — it is marked **Soon**.</Note>

## Your chats

Conversations are saved to your account, so they follow you from one session to the next.

* **New chat** — the **+** button in the panel header starts a fresh conversation.
* **Recent chats** — click the **Ask AI** title in the panel header for a list of your conversations, with a search box to find an old one.
* **Pin or delete** — pin the chats you come back to so they stay at the top, and delete the ones you no longer need.

<Tip>Ask AI answers from market data and news available on i88, and its answers are information, not investment advice. Open the sources it cites before you act on anything it tells you.</Tip>
