# Tags: Label Tickers Your Way and Find Them Again

> Create your own #tags, put them on any ticker from its right-click menu, then narrow ticker search by them or hand a tag to Ask AI as context.

Tags are your own labels for tickers, such as `#earnings`, `#longterm` or `#ai`. One ticker can carry several tags, and one tag can gather tickers from any market: a stock, a crypto coin and an ETF can all sit under the same `#theme`. Tags are saved to your account, so they need you to be [signed in](/account/sign-in).

## Tagging a ticker

Right-click a ticker, or press and hold it on a phone, to open its menu with **Open ticker page**, **Add to watchlist** and **Tags**. The menu is available on ticker rows in [search](/get-started/platform-overview#the-search-panel), in the ticker pickers on ticker pages and in widget filters such as the Price widget's, in the Ask AI ticker picker, on screener rows, on Price list cards (desktop only) and on the ticker chips of news stories. In a [watchlist](/market-tools/watchlist), the row menu has **Tags** too.

**Tags** shows how many tags the ticker already carries. Open it and you get **Tags · SYMBOL**:

* **Put a tag on or take it off.** Your tags are listed alphabetically with a check mark next to the ones on this ticker. Click a tag to toggle it. The number next to each tag counts the tickers that carry it.
* **Create a tag.** Type a name into **Find or create a tag**. If no tag matches it exactly, the first row offers **Create #name**, which creates the tag and puts it on the ticker in one go.
* **Rename or delete.** Each tag has **Rename tag** and **Delete tag** buttons. A deleted tag can be brought back with **Undo** for five seconds.
* **From the keyboard.** The up and down arrows move through the list and **Enter** toggles or creates the tag.

## Naming a tag

A tag name can use letters, digits, `-` and `_`, up to 32 characters. The `#` is added for you, and characters that are not allowed are left out as you type. Names ignore letter case: type the name of a tag you already have, in any case, and the list shows that tag instead of offering to create a second one.

## Finding tickers by tag

Signed in, the search box reads *Search for tickers or #tags…*.

* **Pick a tag.** Type `#` and **My tags** opens with the tags that match, each with the number of tickers it holds. Choose one with the arrow keys or **Tab** and press **Enter**.
* **See what carries it.** A chosen tag shows as a chip above the results, and each market tab lists the tickers that carry it. Choose several tags to see only the tickers that carry all of them. Click a chip to remove its tag.
* **Tags and the All tab.** Tag filtering applies to the market tabs. If you also type a word after the tag, the **All** tab does not apply the tag yet, so switch to a market tab to see only tagged tickers.
* **No such tag.** A tag you do not have is reported as *No tag #name*, with no results.

## Tags in Ask AI

A tag can travel with a question to [Ask AI](/market-tools/ask-ai): type `#` in the message box to pick from **Suggested tags**, or use **+ → Add tag**. The tag drops into your question as a chip, so Ask AI can answer about the tickers behind it. A message can carry up to five tags.

## Without an account

As a guest you can still open the ticker menu, but **Tags** asks you to sign in first, and the sign-in window names the ticker you were about to tag. After signing in, open **Tags** again to continue. In search, `#` is read as ordinary text until you sign in.
